Experience some highlights of the Scottish Highlands on this suggested two day itinerary, with a perfect mix of scenery, history and culture ideal for a weekend escape to the Highlands.
Day One:
Collecting from your chosen accommodation in the Scottish central belt we head northwest to the village of Luss upon the ‘Bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond’ to experience the stunning setting and characterful properties of this charming Victorian village.
Journeying further North we have the opportunity to take in the grand vistas of Glencoe, a regular feature in a variety in films and television series, whilst hearing more about the tragic history of the Jacobite Risings.
Enjoying lunch in the historic town of Fort William where an array of dining options are available, most noted for their fresh seafood.
Continuing our journey through the heart of the Highlands we follow the course of the Caledonian Canal to the town of Fort Augustus, on the Banks of the world famous Loch Ness to indulge in some Nessie spotting.
Completing our first day with an overnight in the Highland Capital of Inverness with a range of dining and entertainment options available for your evening.
Day Two:
Departing Inverness, only a short journey to Culloden Battlefield the conclusive engagement of the Jacobite Risings where we can wander the battlefield and take in the history of the site.
A visit to nearby Clava Cairns provides an insight into Scotland’s Pre-history with a wonderfully preserved Neolithic burial site and stone circle reminiscent of the one created for the Outlander series.
Having journeyed through the mountainous Cairngorm National Park, we enjoy lunch in the characterful 300 year old Moulin Inn followed by some time to wander and shop in the beautiful town of Pitlochry, which rose to prominence as a favourite of Queen Victoria.
We journey into Stirlingshire, historically most associated with the Scottish Wars of Independence which featured William Wallace and Robert the Bruce our final visit of the day is to the imposing Stirling Castle where we delve into medieval life and the castles royal connections.
The day concludes by returning you to your chosen overnight accommodation in the central belt or transport hub for onward travel.
